Energy Use in the United States

Source Billion BTUs %
Crude Oil 8,050,680 36.7256%
Natural Gas 5,333,000 24.3281%
Coal 4,510,900 20.5778%
Nuclear 1,905,900 8.6943%
Biomass 886,400 4.0436%
Hydroelectric 612,300 2.7932%
Biofuels 352,700 1.6089%
Wind 159,100 0.7258%
Geothermal 85,200 0.3887%
Solar 25,000 0.1140%
Total 21,921,180 100.00%

Note that "carbon-based" use is 81.63%
Biomas through Solar is only 9.67%

Is a 1960s "space-age committment" to alternative energy - when
it is more expensive and risky and at a time of debt crisis - really
rational? We should instead open all sources of domestic energy
and stabilize and reduce our trade deficits!
